Communique to All Retirement Benefits Schemes Regarding Participation in Financial Reporting (FiRe) Award

This is to bring to your attention that the Retirement Benefits Authority is now a partner in the Financial Reporting (FiRe) Award.

Founded in 2002, the FiRe award is a joint initiative of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), the Capital Market Authority (CMA) Kenya, and the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and now the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA).

The Award is open to all organizations that prepare annual reports and financial statements.

Following RBA’s partnership, all registered Retirement Benefits Schemes can now participate by submitting their latest Financial Statements for evaluation and award in the ‘Pension Schemes Category’.

The Awards are not only a competition but also a healthy gauge for the compliance trends among corporate entities thus all pension schemes are encouraged to participate, albeit voluntarily.

The deadline for submission towards the 2021 edition of the FiRe Award is February 19, 2021.

Evaluation of entries will commence in the last week of February 2021 to culminate in the Financial Reporting Conference and Award Ceremony on the 26th March 2021 and participants will receive individual confidential feedback report from the evaluation.

More about the FiRe Award 

The award is premised on three key objectives:

  • Promotion of Financial Reporting excellence
  • Fostering of sound corporate governance practices
  • Enhancing corporate investment and environmental reporting

The Award is a result of a rigorous evaluation process using globally accepted principles and best practice standards including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs), best practices in governance and corporate citizenship.
